This was a Sal-less show this week, he had a little mishap at work concerning his eye and he wasn’t able to make it.. he’s currently blind in his right eye. I think Sal needs to take a trip to Rite-Aid or Walgreen’s… I think it would definitely help him out.

Anyway, I pulled a solo show and for the two hour shift I did our usual blend of oddball news stories, entertainment news, lifestyle topics and our regular segments such as ‘Cripple of the Week’ and ‘Glossary of Perversion’ (The Letter K)

• I spoke about me and Wilma (from our chat) both being Lutheran… which OBVIOUSLY means we worship Luther Vandross… I also told a story that she told me in relation to her being Lutheran…
• Man in a diaper on Halloween night cursing at adults and children… THIS IS WHY PEOPLE ABOVE 15 YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT BE TRICK OR TREATING!
• MORE ANIMAL SEX, WHAT THE HELL! This time, a guy sexually assaults his former Snowball
• Little boy who lives in Brick Township, NJ (don’t we know someone from there?) gets expelled from school because of his long hair… damn Catholic schools

• Another person with the last name ‘Barnes’ finds themselves in trouble… geez, the Barnes clan needs to clean up their game

• Charlie Sheen… an October Belize booze binge and now living with a sober coach? Sure seems like it.

As it comes to be 2PM in the afternoon eastern time on this Sunday June 28 2009, one has to ask themself this question… WHAT HAPPENED THIS PAST WEEK? The reasoning behind the question is obvious… but for those who have been living under a rock recently, here’s a quick refresher.

• Tues. 6/23/09 - Comedian/TV personality Ed McMahon passes away from bone cancer at the age of 86.
• Thurs. 6/25/09 - Actress Farah Fawcett passes away from cancer at the age of 62.
• Thurs. 6/25/09 - Music Superstar Michael Jackson passes away from cardiac arrest at the age of 50.
• Sun. 6/28/09 - Television pitchman Billy Mays passes away at the age of 50.

There are currently other famous people on the brink of passing such as broadcasting legend Walter Cronkite and actor/EDGE FM antagonist Patrick Swayze.

It begs asking, WHY all of a sudden are these famous figures dropping like flies? Is there something in the water, Is there government involvement… or is God deciding to clean house with the apocalypse right around the corner…

…or is it just one giant coincidence?

Apparently, no one can answer these questions… those of us here at EDGE FM have tried contacting God for further questions, but no reponse has been given as of this writing.

People are saying that death is such a normal everyday thing.. that why is it when these big names pass away it’s made to be such a big deal? Average no-name people pass on a hourly (minutely, is that a word?) basis and yet no one bats an eye. My quick response to that is.. just think about Michael Jackson without all of the alleged child-touching accusations and other oddities for a second. He was an entertainer with a gift who inspired thousands on a daily basis. Some of today’s biggest artists (Beyonce, Chris Brown, Justin Timberlake, etc) all attribute their inspirations in some way to Michael Jackson.

When a big name such as Jackson passes on, it is important to pause and reflect upon the legacy left upon the world by that person’s actions. It’s also natural that the bigger a name is, the more attention will be given to that person. So to those who snob upon the famous getting the attention when they pass, I say ‘too bad’. If you want some recognition when you pass, do something to get it!

I encourage all of you to leave your thoughts and comments below regarding your feelings upon those who passed or your response to those who nay-say the deaths of the famous.
