Beginning this past Monday, you might have noticed a new profile picture on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.. as well as status updates with the last few words saying ‘EDGE FM Talks’. You might have wondered, ‘What’s that about?’ Quite simply, it’s our new campaign to push that EDGE FM is different than the other plethora of stations around the web.
We are obviously a talk station… we have been since April 2008 and will remain so for as long as possible. Since the format change back in 2008 to around-the-clock talk, we have been a very strong source for talk programming with a taste of something for everybody. We’ve had shows on the station ranging from male-oriented talk/hot talk, relationship talk, sports talk, random/news-related talk and more.
EDGE FM is centered on focusing about talk that people of all demographics can relate to in some form. It doesn’t necessarily have to be raunchy or ‘over the top’ to be good talk radio. Radio is (and should always be) in my opinion ‘theater of the mind’. Creating that spark with the audience using just the human voice is a talent that in my opinion has been lost over the past decade or so in radio. People have been too much relying on visual aids to connect with the audience, picking fights with other people/shows/stations, or overloading on social media such as Facebook or Twitter and the magic of radio has been lost. Creating the audience connection using purely voice is a craft, and with the Internet having such untapped potential for radio in a new form, maybe it’s time to return to the roots of radio.
In essence, the ‘EDGE FM talks’ slogan is a reflection upon who we are as a station and my outlook toward the future. We are YOUR Internet talk station and while I’m not speaking for all of the shows, it is my goal to run a station that once more can create that spark with the listener. Even if it’s just through one show.
We are the place where talk lives, and talking is what we do, better than anyone else in my opinion. We hope you feel the same way. Thanks for listening to our station and checking out our programming. To tweak the title of a David Essex song…
Talk On.
